Batleth Tournie 4-27-08
AAR: IKVQV/IKVD Batleth Tournie
Date: 4-26-08
Location: Danville, Arkansas

This After Action report is on the IKV Deliverance and IKV Qin Vagh's first Batleth Tournament.
I learned two acronyms in the Army. AER: After Encounter Report.
AAR: After Action Report. This was action, have no doubts!
We had fun, we had fellowship, and we had a good ole', rip snorting Klingon time!! We are also now a ship that has hosted and pulled off an interstate event. As the newest formed ship in the area, I am putting a feather in the cap of the crews of both host ships, this was an event to remember. Everyone had a great time!
We had five ships represented at this tournie.
The crew of the IKV QV left the Metroplex on Friday morning to head to the Tournie site. We got a bit of a late start due to the fact that my divisional supervisor showed to see me at work 5 minutes prior to me getting off and held us up for about 45 minutes. Once we got on the road, we made best speed to Lord Krell's Forge, picked him and his gear up, then headed out for the site.
Murphy was stalking us this weekend, of that we have no doubts. We lost roughly 1 1/2 hours on the trip up due to torrential downpours in which we had to stop and cover our cargo so we wouldn't be sleeping in wet gear.
Once we arrived we had just enough time to unload a minimum of gear and set up camp. We sat down and broke bread, had fellowship with our brethren and then hit the sack to prep for the following day.
Saturday morning we awoke early and got the site set up for the tournie.
The combat was fast, furious and just about the most fun I have had in a long time.
We had the standard events, Batleth, Mekleth, Daqtaq' and freestyle. We had 8-10 combatants (One or two stepped in and out and in for various reasons). During the comabats, there was much goofing around. Everyone was getting shots on each other.
Also, we now have a screaming wall of Dragen. Dragen snuck up behind Salek and was going to roll him. As he came up, he let out a blood curdling scream, and went to bowl Salek over. Salek didnt even look, he just dodged down and to the right, letting Dragen fly over him and hit the deck! Nice!!! We got serious laughs over this one and I think that this did get video'ed.
The fights went fast and we were finished with the combats by 2:30 pm. We then got the stage setup for the ceremonies that night and sat down to watch the arrival of our Galley Lord, Jay Webb.
Thsi is a concept that I encourage all ships to try at least once to see how it goes. We had this event catered. This is the second time we as an entity have done this. I will tell you up front, this is the way to go. It takes alot of headaches away from command and lets them focus on the events and not worry about getting everyone fed.
This was a huge load off of us and we just sat back and watched the other guests as they arrived, and had much fellowship.
There was enough roast Targh/ Venison/ Chicken/ Spicy combo meat and other foodstuff's to feed a small third world country at this event. Everyone took some home with them the next day, there was so much.
Once it got dark enough, we started the ceremonies. We had our howl, gave awards and we showed the guests in attendance what it was like to attend one of our events. We also broke from the norm to date, instead of bloodwine, we opened the Warnog. Bloodwine is a little too sweet for my taste and I wanted to try something different. This also gave me an oppurtunity to break in the attachments to the QV's new stage setup.
At this point we had roughly 30 people at this event what with the guests, warriors and family present.
I will also give HUGE honorable mention to the IKV QV/ IKV D's own brewer, Lord Buroq'. His Warnog was the best! And it definitely helped anyone who had it to sleep a little better Saturday night, right Mike??
The guests that arrived even got to get in the ring and we had several small combats up until the ceremonies.
The awards are as follows:
1st overall: Lord Jester/ QidWi
2nd overall: Lord Spike
3rd overall: Lord Rotoq' (He was happy about this one!!)
1st place Batleth: Lord Jester
1st place Mekleth: Lord Spike
1st place Daqtaq': Lord B'alrahg
1st place Freestyle: Lord Rotoq'
Ferocity in battle: Lord Salek (He went nine rounds with Tyson and walked out of the ring on his own as well as avoidance of the screaming wall of Dragen)
Bringing the Thunder: Lady Kat (She fought this tournament sick and gave as well as she got)
FUBAR award: Lady Alishia (She took herself out of a non-combat event and gave herself a shiner!)

We also gave Murphy an award, for trying his best to ruin our weekend! We took the certificate, set it on fire, and threw it in the pit to burn. This was how we showed him what we think of his nefarious ways of trying to mess up our tournament!
On a personal note. Lord Salek lost his Grandmother the very morning of this tournament. We howl for his loss and for his spirit. I have been there and dont wish the pain of losing a loved one on anybody. That is a rough road.
Kai Kassai Salek.
Once the ceremonies were through, we sat down around the fire pit, and had much fellowship and even more Warnog.
Sunday morning came way too quickly. We arose, broke camp and headed our seperate ways to our homes after saying our goodbyes to friends and our brothers and sisters.
I lament having this end, but so look forward to our next event!
To the Warriors able to make it: Kai Kassai!!!
If you couldnt be there? Try to make the next one, you wont regret it!!!

Strength and Honor

Commander, IKV Qin Vagh

Ah yes.  Pain. Pain is a Klingon's friend.  This past weekend the KIV Deliverance (in cahoots with the IKV Qin Vagh) hosted the first interstate batleth tournament of which I am aware; as well as being their first period.  I got off work, came home and packed, crashed for a couple hours (Didn't get home from work till 3am after all) then headed over ot Lord Balragh's work to load up the cargo hauler and head to Krell's Forge to pick up Lord Krell and head at Ludicrous Speed for Danville, arkansas.  We got there around 7 or 8pm terran time, set up, relaxed, had a drink and went to bed to be rested and ready for combat the following morning.  Rain rain go away and please come back another day.  DAMN THAT MURPHY!

Saturday dawned clear and cool, and very comfortable.  Had the usual events of Batleth, Mekleth, Daq and freestyle; all of which were won by diff people.  Hat's off to Lord Rotoq for kicking some major butt this weekend (3rd overall AND freestyle winner.  Now you know why I refuse to fight him double anything; especially meks).  Hat's off to lady Katoq as well: She was hurting like crazy but would NOT stop fighting.  You go girl!  That night we at like warriors and kings, thanks to Jay Webb and the meat supplied by Mike.  That man can COOK!  Rumor has it he may be catering a Klingon wedding or 2 in the near future, so if you are invited to that particular wedding you had better go.  Ceremonies were short, sweet and to the point, and the fellowship was grand.  ALthough, remind me to NOT do a face first dirt dive again?  Salek dodges well, but it was funny seeing him do a 2 sec peepee dance when I screamed right behind him.  If that is on vid and makes it on the net, you gotta see it.  In fact, you gotta see the whole tournie.

Sunday sucked:  Only because of the departures.  The scenery at the Deliverance compound us to die for, as well as was the food, fun and fellowship.  And I got more points in this tournie than in any of my other 3 (This was my 4th).  Just goes to prove what Lord Krell once told Lord Rotoq, and continually tells me: Keep practicing and do NOT give up and you will always see improvement.

Friday April 25 I show up before all others to help Mike do some cleaning up. Balrahg shows up with a few of the others that were there. So naturally I help some of the setting up, later that night we all gather around Balrahg’s fire pit all have a few drinks and BS with each other. Spike and Jester showed up around 10:30 pm. We all finally hit the beds do to having a long day ahead of us.

Saturday bright and early we all start moving around, eat some nourishment, then began planning how the day will flow. Balrahg set up the Ceremony stand, and planned the entire out how all the opponents were going to play. Me I sat out due the fact that this was my first time out.

Bat’lth was the first to be fought out, and all fought well and with heart. Then there was Mactach, and dauchta. ( I don’t have a clue on how to spell those).  The say as well with all of these they all fought with heart. Then we all broke for lunch, and small talk.

After the healthy meals we decided to get back into the game of free style, I was interested in playing this time, and because Kat was not feeling well and mike doing other things we lost two player and then I wanted to get into it. Thanks to Balrahg honorably bowing out to give me a spot I got to play that round. Not knowing what in the hell I was doing I got out there and fought George. I didn’t do too badly for it being my first time I ended the game with a 2/3 so no not too bad.

But I officially became an assassin too, Spike was out judging a round and being a goof like he always is, he had my daughter dodge ball in his shirt. So what  I do is I take a dauchta and from behind and took him out. In doing that I also too out my son too, he ended up being behind me as I fell to the ground with Spike.

Then Balrahg make up a non-combatant game involving my children’s dodge balls and some nurf footballs, along with another type of toy that looked about the same as the footballs but were plastic. However the object of this game was too hit the moving dodge balls with the footballs. And knowing me I am up for trying something new. So I am out there throwing these balls and trying to the others. When Balrahg changes the way he throws the ball. Well I hit it then and then it turns on me and hits right in the eye, giving myself a black eye.

We had a good day. After a long day’s work out, and all types of laughs, we are able to eat. Thanks to Tanqaca, which is my father, and Mike being the host we had some out standing food. We all had a few more drinks had a few more good laughs, and then began to get ready for the ceremony.

As the ceremony started, we all took some time to give thanks too all those that have fallen and all those that couldn’t be there. And then we had our toast. Next we did awards. Jester took 1st over all, Spike too 2nd over all, and I don’t remember how took 3rd overall. But then they handed out a few other worthy awards, and I got the FUBAR
“leave it to me, to black my own eye.” But if it weren’t for Balrahg bowing out I would not have had my chance to play so I want to thank you, and also if he had not done that either he would have gone home with more than he did, so thank you Rahg. I Hope to be able to honor these people again in ways that they showed me this weekend. We all just got out there and had a good old time, thank you all.

Sad partings on Sunday morning, I think that we all went to bed early Saturday after all of the long events that took place. I know that I did. Saturday we all tried to pitch in and breakdown and pack all things. To say good bye, peaceful partings hope to have another one soon.

Thanks.
